Preserving Fresh Herbs

I love this tip submitted at the Smart Solutions linky party by Nancy at Prudent Living. She is enjoying fresh oregano from her garden and shows us how to preserve some for the winter. Hop on over and see how she freezes and dries oregano.

How do you preserve fresh herbs to use during the winter months?

Twelve Days of Christmas in July - Day 5: Advent Calendar Ideas

One of my favorite holiday traditions is the advent calendar. In addition to the Christmas book advent calendar, we like to have another countdown-to-Christmas type activity calendar.

The thing about advent calendars, however, is that they do take some planning. So take a look at these unique advent calendar ideas and start planning for December.

Spool Advent Calendars

Cathe at Just Something I Made shares this advent calendar made with wooden spools. She includes free printables along with different options for displaying the spools. I love the garland made with spools and beads.

Simple Gift Bag Advent Calendar

The beauty of this one is it's simplicity and I love how it looks. Organize & Decorate Everything shares this stunning display of a very simple idea. Of course it helps to have a great spot to display all these bags. Start searching now for a deal on bags and number stickers and you will be all set come December.

Toilet Paper Roll Advent Countdown

Start saving toilet paper rolls now so you can make this beautiful countdown calender from Maya Made. These toilet paper rolls were spray painted--how cute is that--so you could make this any color or theme you choose.

Matchbox Advent Calendar

This cute advent calendar from The Craft Patch is made with matchbooks and a cookie sheet! This looks so easy to make and it turned out beautiful!

Start planning now to get your project ready in plenty of time for the December countdown!

Check out the Twelve Days of Christmas in July linky party for more great advent calendar ideas!

Frugal DIY Storage Boxes

If you're looking for a frugal storage solution, visit Daniela at Frugal Ain't Cheap. I just love how she turned some used cardboard boxes into some very functional storage. Go check out her post and see how she did it!

Daniela shared this great project at the Smart Solutions link party.

Twelve Days of Christmas in July - Day 4: Printable Gift Tags

To simplify gift wrapping,  I like to come up with a  gift wrapping "theme". There is no searching for matching ribbon or gift tags when you are stocked with coordinating materials. I'm leaning toward a very simple (and inexpensive) theme this year using brown paper wrapping and twine.

Here are some of the amazing {free}printable gift tags I have found around the web. Perhaps some of these gorgeous gift tags will inspire your gift-wrapping plans this year.

I just love this jumbo gift tag from Eat Drink Chic.

And these simple tags from The Inspired Room.

Here are some fun "Santa" tags from Brooklyn Limestone:

These fancy gift  labels from August Express would make any package look elegant.

Creature Comforts shares these beautiful snowflake gift tags and pillow boxes.  I love the pillow boxes for hard-to-wrap small gifts. The printable download has simple instructions for how to construct the boxes.

Do you use a theme for your holiday gift wrap?
